Who We Are

We are normal people. Most of us live in Central Pennsylvania. Some of us are still in college, some have just recently graduated, and some of us graduated a long time ago. Some of us never went to college. We all have different jobs in different fields. Some of us are single, and some of us are married. Some of us have children.
What we all have in common is a desire to seek God and follow Christ as His disciple. We have a desire to engage in conversation about the Bible and to live out a relationship with Christ in our daily life. We don’t hide from tough issues, and we like to be challenged.  We also don’t hide from people with hurts in their lives.
We desire to grow and mature as followers of Jesus within a community of believers. We hope that as we make decisions about our life’s purpose and meaning, we can look beside us and find many other people with whom we can travel.
CrossWalk Community is…

  • Christ Honoring - We strive to glorify God in everything we do. In our large group and small group gatherings, we honor God through worship, prayer, relationships and discussion.
  • Relationship Building - We provide opportunities for people to grow deeper in their relationships. We lovingly extend open arms to people who do not know Christ; we actively encourage people to deepen their walk with Christ and each other; and we challenge maturing Christians to open their hearts to give and receive support from other Christians.
  • Biblically Challenging - We do not blindly accept Scripture until we struggle with its implications. We wrestle with the tough questions of life and encourage all people to be seekers of ultimate truth, which we believe will point all seekers to Jesus Christ.
  • Leadership Building - We invest in people to prepare them for service in the church and community. We expect that many of those involved in CrossWalk ministries will become significant leaders, so we will provide as many hands-on training opportunities for people as possible.
  • Outward Focused - We constantly ask ourselves how we can extend the love of Jesus to our community and world.
  • Life Balanced - We want everything that we do to be done with excellence so that our time, energy, and talent can be used for God’s glory. We will pay particular attention to our human need for balance in church, family and work relationships.
  • Genuineness - We strive to make our private and public lives the same as we relate to people. We strive for openness and vulnerability with our hurt and pain so that others can also be healed. In a world full of scandal, our greatest defense is our genuineness, relating to others with integrity and graciousness, knowing that Jesus did the same thing for us.

What We Are

CrossWalk Community is a church unlike any church you have experienced before. We are a community of people at the CrossWalk. Together, we face difficult decisions like how to live, whom to marry, and what career direction to take.

This is what the LORD says:
“Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.”
Jerhemiah 6:16

Crosswalks are where the most accidents happen, where most car crashes occur, and where most pedestrians are killed or hurt. Crosswalks are also places where people change directions.  And we believe that the best way for people to make life transitions is through a relationship with Jesus Christ in the context of a community of believers.

Why We Are Who We Are

Today, many people find churches to be distant and disconnected. Why? Because today, many people think differently than past generations.

A traditional church consists of a Sunday Morning service which is 50% worship through music, and 50% teaching through preaching. Little opportunity is given to the church members to actively engage the issues raised as a community, and other forms of worship are rarely explored.

Our generation, the postmodern generation, is looking for something different and something more. We want to talk about things that matter. We want to wrestle with ideas and issues. We don’t always need neat, clean answers to our questions.

That is why CrossWalk Community exists. CrossWalk Community gives our generation an opportunity to engage God and others in a constructive, supportive, and exciting community.

Where and When We Meet

Crosswalk Community is not just a service with a place and a time…it is a community. Therefore, we meet many different places throughout our day-to-day lives.

In addition, starting September 25th, we gather regularly in the Family Life Center of the Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church (McBIC) on Sunday evenings at 6:00pm. Meeting in the evening gives those of us who work, or those of us who just have a hard time waking up on Sunday mornings, an opportunity for community worship.

Directions to McBIC

Our Sunday evening gatherings are the core of CrossWalk Community. Designed to replace the traditional church service, our Sunday evenings give us an opportunity to worship together, and to actively engage God and the Bible.

Our Sunday evenings are very different from other church services. Instead of a formal atmosphere, we have a laid-back, relaxed atmosphere. Instead of pews, we have round tables. Instead of a long sermon, we have discussions and active participation.

Relationship With McBIC

McBIC

CrossWalk Community is a Satellite Ministry of Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church (McBIC). Although in many ways CrossWalk is a separate entity, McBIC acts as its support structure. CrossWalk Community meetings are held within McBIC and are part of the church’s desire to reach out to those who are not as interested in a traditional church.
